Kink personals in London

The only city in Britain where every model is properly populated, and the community platforms are the anchor of it. A reputation formed there follows people onto the matchers, because the same faces are on both and everyone knows it. That makes London the easiest place in the country to check somebody out and the hardest place to start again from nothing. Whoever you meet has generally been around long enough to have a history, and assumes you have one too.

Where from Posts here come from north of the river, the south east, the east, the west and the commuter belt. An app turns that into a radius slider. A board makes people say it in words, which is more useful and considerably harder to fake.

Doms in London

Leading, and saying what that means in practice rather than in adjectives.

i_do_not_leave_much the commuter belt

I do not travel well, so being present cannot mean a journey

Wants: somebody local, patient, and content with an arrangement built around my flat

Twenty two years, two dynamics, of five years and seven.

Turning up is the currency on the platform you join, and I cannot turn up. Not to things, not regularly, and not without paying for it for two days afterwards. So my entire presence for six years has been written, which works, and every person who has found me that way has been a reader rather than an attender. That is a selection effect and I have made my peace with it.

the_dealt_hand the south east

Sixty two, and I refuse to be dealt out like a hand of cards

Wants: somebody who can write two paragraphs and mean both of them

Thirty years, four long dynamics, the last ended in the spring.

My objection to the swiping model is neither moral nor nostalgic. It is that the form itself is illiterate. A photograph and eleven words cannot carry a proposition of any complexity, what I am proposing is complex, and so the medium quietly filters for people who want something simple and immediate. Those people exist and are entitled to their evening. I am not one of them and I have stopped pretending to be.

teaching_is_not_collecting the west

Yes I will teach. No, that is not a dynamic, and here is why

Wants: either a student who wants only that, or a partner who wants the other thing

Twenty years, several arrangements, two mentorships that stayed platonic.

There is a teaching culture on the platform you join and none at all on the one that deals you faces, and the difference decides who arrives at my door. People off the community side turn up having read for a year and wanting to be shown how a thing is done properly. People off the swiping side turn up wanting something else entirely and using the word teach because it sounds modest.

Subs in London

Submitting, with the terms set out before anyone opens a conversation.

the_wall_at_the_free_end the south east

On the free side you cannot answer anybody, and I cannot pay

Wants: a platform where writing to a stranger is not a purchase

Eighteen months, all of it online, nothing in person yet.

On the model everybody recommends to beginners, the free version lets you look and not speak. I could see that four people had written to me and I could not read a word of any of it, for eleven days, until whatever offer they were dangling expired and so, apparently, did they. I am a student. That was not a decision I was able to make, and I do not think it should have been a decision at all.

a_profile_without_a_face the west

No photograph anywhere, which decides what sort of place I can exist in

Wants: a dominant who can build trust across a table instead of an album

Four years, one dynamic of eighteen months, entirely private.

A face is optional on the platforms you join and effectively compulsory on the platforms that deal you people, and that one difference has decided everything about how I do this. I am not on the visual ones at all. There is no photograph of me on any of them and there never will be. It is not modesty. It is my family, who are close and would not understand.

Switches in London

Both directions, looking for somebody who can follow the change without needing it explained twice.

two_days_or_two_months the south east

One wanted to meet in two days, the other to write for two months

Wants: the pace in between, which nobody appears to have built a platform for

Fourteen years, four arrangements, all of which started unevenly.

In the same fortnight I met two people. One had come off the fast kind of platform, suggested meeting in two days, and could not understand why I wanted a phone call first. The other had come off the slow kind and had a two month correspondence in mind before anything else was discussed. Neither of them was wrong. They had each been taught what normal looks like by a different piece of software.

she_uses_the_other_kind the commuter belt

My wife and I are open, and we never see each other on these

Wants: something ongoing of my own, with the whole situation stated up front

Twenty years married, six years open, two arrangements in that time.

We have been open for six years and we use completely different sorts of platform, which has turned out to be the single most useful accident of the arrangement. She is on a big general one. I am on the written specialist kind. In six years neither of us has appeared in front of the other, not once, and it was never planning. The populations simply barely touch.

Still working it out in London

Somewhere in the middle of deciding, and honest enough to write that down instead of guessing at a label.

no_history_at_forty_five the south east

Forty five, divorced, and here having no history is itself a problem

Wants: somebody willing to take a person on their own account

None. Twenty years of marriage in which none of this ever came up.

This is the only city I know of where being new is treated as slightly suspicious. Everybody on the platforms here has an archive: years of writing, people who will vouch, an account older than some marriages. I have none of it, because eight months ago I was a married man in a suburb who had never said any of this out loud, and I have already been asked twice, politely, what I was doing before.

the_last_try the east

The last thing I will write on the internet about any of this

Wants: one honest conversation, and if not, an ending I chose myself

Six years across four platforms, two meetings, nothing that continued.

I am done after this. Six years, four platforms, every model there is, two meetings that came to nothing and a very large number of conversations that went quiet somewhere around the third week. This advert is the last thing I am going to write about it, and then I am deleting everything and getting on with a perfectly good life that has this missing from it.

Now choose for this place

Reading a board tells you how people in London write and what they ask for. Which platform to write it on is a separate question, and the answer moves with the size of the place.

  • The method, run against wherever you actually live
  • Starting from zero somewhere you have just moved
  • When the nearest busy board is two hours away
  • The shortlist, ranked on pond size and model fit
