A face is optional on the platforms you join and effectively compulsory on the platforms that deal you people, and that one difference has decided everything about how I do this. I am not on the visual ones at all. There is no photograph of me on any of them and there never will be. It is not modesty. It is my family, who are close and would not understand.
Thirty two, west London, submissive, four years in. This city is smaller than it looks. I have twice recognised somebody in a stack who I would then have had to be pleasant to at a family wedding, and the second time I closed the whole thing and did not open it again for a month.
What I offer instead of an album is speed in the other direction. I will be in a room with somebody early, somewhere public and ordinary, in daylight, and I am far more open across a table than I will ever be in a chat window. I would rather be known in person than documented online.
What I want is ongoing and quiet. Structure that shows up on a Tuesday, nothing that has to be explained afterwards, nobody added anywhere. I am not going to be argued out of any of it.
If a platform's whole model requires my face before it will show me a single person, then that platform is not for me, and neither is anybody who thinks the requirement is reasonable. Not looking for a fantasy about secrecy. Not looking to be anybody's hidden thing, which is a different arrangement entirely.
