There is a public record of me going back six years. Every comment, every argument I lost, the long thread where I was wrong about something in front of a couple of hundred people. A stranger can read all of it before deciding whether to say hello, and several have, and one opened with a quotation from something I wrote in my first month.
That is what the joining sort of platform does and the swiping sort cannot. It gives you a history, and here that history follows you onto everything else, because it is the same faces on all of them and everybody knows it. This is the easiest city in the country to check somebody out and the hardest one to be new in.
Thirty six, north of the river, submissive. I am not complaining about it. I would rather be knowable than mysterious, and I have checked other people myself and been glad of the chance.
What I would ask is that you read six years as six years rather than as a set of quotable moments. I have changed my mind in public about several things and I would do it again. What I want now is a steady arrangement with somebody older, service led, with a review every few months where either of us can say it is not working without a scene. Not looking for anyone who wants me to account for a sentence I wrote in my first year. Not looking to start over as nobody, and not willing to pretend I could.
