The community platforms have a mentoring habit built into them and the fast ones have none at all, so nearly everybody who asks me to teach them arrives from the same sort of place carrying the same set of expectations. Most of those are reasonable. The one that is not is the assumption that teaching turns into a dynamic if it goes well. It does not, and I now put an end date in writing before anything begins.
Fifty, Manhattan, dominant, twenty two years in. I have mentored four people. Two are friends now, one is running something better than anything I ever managed, and one stopped speaking to me when it finished, which was in the agreement and was still hard.
Separately, I want a dynamic of my own. Ongoing, weekly, structured, with an adult who does not need the basics explained and who has an opinion about what she wants rather than a list she read somewhere.

Not looking for anybody who wants a mentorship as a route to something else. Not looking to be a rung. And not looking for somebody who wants the teaching to be permanent, because a thing that never ends is not teaching, it is a dependency, and I have watched that go wrong twice.
